This is a rare opportunity to train and embark on a legal career with a major, full service corporate law firm which is interested in filtering some top grade recent or current Short Service Officers into the selection process for one of the 12 Training Contracts they award annually.
To be eligible you will need to have achieved at minimum of 3 'A' grade A levels, and at least a 2:1 degree or equivalent, probably in an academically demanding subject (not necessarily Law): you will also need to demonstrate that your military service was graded well above average.
You must be sociable, with an ability to work co-operatively with others, and strong relationship building skills. Above all, you must have a genuine interest in the Commercial world. Successful candidates in the past have shown high levels of intellect, self-discipline, self-reliance, an ability to persevere and initiative - all traits inherent in high grade Officers anyway. If you can focus on the essentials of a complex issue, analyse it and ask the right questions promptly you are possibly the right type.
The firm will be recruiting shortly for 2020 Training Contracts, and the process leading up to that involves a one year Graduate Diploma of Law (GDL) followed by a 7.5 month fast track Legal Practice Course (LPC); with the former commencing in August 2018. Prior to that, if selected you will be expected to attend one of three 10 day 'vacation schemes' attached to the firm in June / July 2018. Course fees for both GDL and LPC will be paid by the firm, together with an annual £7000 maintenance grant, but you will need to be able to fund yourself beyond this over the period of GDL / LPC. No GDL necessary if you already have a Law degree (in which case you might possibly be eligible for a 2019 Training Contract). First year salary after completion of GDL / LPC once your two year Training Contract with the firm begins is currently £45700, and £49900 in Year 2, which is reviewed annually: an exceptional range of benefits supports this. Thereafter, newly qualified Associates start on a base salary of £120000.
